Drawn unwillingly into a perilous pilgrimage to discover the true identity of Deus Irae is Tibor McMasters, a legless and armless mural artist, and Pete Sands, a young Christian secretly assigned to protect Tibor from any mishaps along the way. Confused and unhappy, Tibor knows why he has been chosen for this dangerous mission but cannot see what part he—one vulnerable and limbless heretic—can play in this desperate plot by the foundering Christian Church. Pete Sands, for his own part, feels his beliefs threatened and wonders what he will do if Tibor actually finds a God.

A fascinating tale blending strong action, religion, and morality in the all-too-foreseeable future, Deus Irae is the story of these two men, each prodded by conflicting passions, whose paths would cross on an extraordinary 1,000-mile journey from Charlottesville, Utah to L.A.—and then only finish when Tibor and Sands have come together to the odd and chilling conclusion that the truth they stand to discover might well be a terminal possession.
