Homecoming

The Tillerman kids — four of them — watched their mother disappear into a crowd one Saturday morning, never to return. It was up to thirteen year-old Dicey to be the parent to her 3 younger siblings now. She had to make all the decisions, feed them, and find places to sleep. Above all else, Dicey had to avoid the authorities who would split them up and place them in foster homes. She had to find an adult they could trust, someone who would take them in and love them. But deep down she was afraid that it was too much to hope for.
