S.L. Bhyrappa was originally a philosopher, but he turned towards novel writing to reveal the meaning of life that he understood. This is one of his best sellers. It reflects the conflict between orthodox and traditional rituals and the changing life styles and values of this generation. He has superbly jotted down the feelings and uproar on a family level. The original work in Kannada has been bestowed upon by the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award while the Kannada movie based on this has won the National Award.
