In a whirlwind courtship Nan Padgett was swept off her feet by Richardson Bartee, and they planned their life together amidst the peaceful vineyards of his family estate in Southern California…until the transatlantic phone call telling Nan that she must not go ahead with her plans for the wedding. After that came the mysterious bequest with the condition that her marriage to Bartee never take place.
