The Discovery of Egypt

Almost every culture has left its mark of passage on the great antiquities of Egypt. The Greeks, under Alexander in 341 BC, were among the first to tramp across the desert sands and ancient cities of Egypt. Next came the Romans under Emperor Augustus who actually annexed Egypt to Rome and put to death Cleopatra’s son Ptolemy XIV. The Arab conquest of Egypt in 639 made the country an integral part of the Muslim world.
