The Water Mirror

Feisty Merle and her best friend Junipa, who is blind, are orphans apprenticed to a magical mirror maker in Venice, in a world where the Egyptian Empire has been resurrected. Its mummy warriors and powerful sphinxes have conquered most of the world, and besieged Venice for 30 years. The Venetians’ only protection is the Flowing Queen. No one really knows who or what the Flowing Queen is, but the Venetians worship her as a powerful protector. Merle has always had a connection to the water: her only possession is a mirror with water in the place of glass and she is fascinated by mermaids. When Merle and another apprentice stumble across a plot to capture the Flowing Queen, they are thrown into a wild adventure, and Merle must face a destiny she cannot escape.
