White on White: Selections from the Works of E. B. White

Famous for his columns in “Harper s” and “The New Yorker” magazines, revered for his essays in “One Man s Meat” and” The Elements of Style,” and immortalized through his classic children s books “Charlotte s Web” and “Stuart Little,” E. B. White and his way with words has become legendary. Moving his family to a saltwater farm in Maine in 1938, E. B. White immersed himself in his surroundings and we are all the better for it. From the IRS to the bumblebee, White s simple insights and persistent wit shed new light on the everyday for his readers. Many agreed with the “New York Times” when it hailed E. B. White as the finest essayist in the United States. During the last year of E. B. White s life, his son, Joel White (1931-1997) visited him daily. These bedside hours were often spent with Joel reading excerpts from E. B. White s works aloud for them to enjoy together.
