Wise Child is frightened when she is sent to live with Juniper, a young woman the superstitious villagers fear as a witch. But she discovers no evil in the magic that Juniper has to teach her – only a desire to help other others with herbal and healing skills, and a understanding and awareness of the very rhythms of life itself. Perhaps, Wise Child thinks, she too could become a special a person as Juniper.

But then her mother, the powerful sorceress Maeve the Fair, claims Wise Child for her own, tempting her with a magic of a very different kind – a magic to which Wise Child knows she should never give in…
